This course is an introduction to teaching, learning and assessment in post-16 education or training. The aim is to provide you with an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships within post-16 education, to develop your knowledge and skills around planning and delivering an inclusive teaching session and how to assess and give constructive feedback to your learners.

The Award is the starting point if you’re thinking of entering the teaching profession or if you’re already involved in adult learning or training but have no formal teaching qualifications.

The course is delivered by taught sessions, group activities and discussions.

You will study three key assignments:

• roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer

• understanding and using inclusive learning techniques

• principles of assessment

You will learn about relevant principles and theories and will reflect on how you can apply these in your specialist area. You will gain confidence in how to plan and design an inclusive lesson and will also deliver a 15 minute microteach to your peers in the group. You will be assessed on your practical skills and a portfolio of written work built up throughout the course.

The Qualsafe Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) is intended for individuals who would like to work, or currently work, in the further education and skills sector for further education (FE) colleges, independent training providers and/or Local Authorities. This qualification forms part of the QA Education and Training suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development 2014 Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training Successful candidates will attain the teaching/ training knowledge, understanding and the skills required to work in the further education and skills sector.
